OUR WAY TO RIO+20
Related to country: Brazil
|
If you websearch "Rio+20" you are likely to hit a million search results. Everyone is currently saying something about Rio+20, what are you saying?
Going back to the history we realise that there have been several conferencs since 1970's advocating for changes on environment, but also the hostory speaks that all these conferences came up with Resolutions and Declarations which most of them were not binding.
-
Will this be the same?
-
Will this be another of those expensve conferences that end up comming with a word for all to charish and praise?
-
What have been done to the previous resolutions and Declarations?
-
What is Africa position on the talks? Are they there as the "International Observers" and victims ?
-
Can Africa have opinion on this matter?
If you are an enviromentalist make sure you know what you are advocating for. When you can make your voice be heard make sure you also have solutions to your suggestions.
What role are you playing?

The Pride of Being a Girl- Fahari ya Kuwa msichana
Related to country: Tanzania

Fahari ya Kuwa Msichana" is the program run by Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots clubs in primary and secondary schools in Tanzania. It was founded in 2011 by Erica Hall one of the JGI volunteers.
This program aims to raise the self esteem of young girls in tackling challenges they meet as they grow up. The program involves preparing workshop to se...veral girls in Secondary schools then they train several other girls in primary schools, after that the trained girls run the program in their school and neighboring schools.
This group aims to act as a platform for all girls to speak about any matter of their choice. That is to why the membership of this group is closed and opened to only girls.
Tanzania girls have potentials that need only a little motivation for them to make great changes.

Tanzania is 50, IS IT THE AGE OR THE DEVELOPMENT THAT MATTERS
Related to country: Tanzania

A nice car, nice house, beautiful wife/husband, successful children, retirement benefits, health insurance...... every persons dreams when he/she is at 50's?
But how do one measure the dreams of the country when it is celebrating its 50th anniversary since Independence? Is it the GDP, is it the infrastructures, the unemployment rate, mortality rates.... what exactly account for the countries achievements?
United Republic of Tanzania, celebrated its 50th anniversary since independence, 09th December 1961.
With a growing GDP, reduced mortality rates and emroved llife expectance, common citizen still think life is getting far too worse than better comparing to years soon after independence.
A USD is sold at 1600/- Tshs compare to few years back where it used to be 1000/- tshs this means that all products that are imported the price has risen, especially petrolleum whisch is used in different sectors. This has made the life of normal Tanzania to be even difficult, with the rate of wages increasing Arthmetically and the price of basics Geometrically, the general living condition has deteriorate.
Coming to the education system, it has dropped to the maxmam even though lookin at the side of enrollmen it has improved alot since independence. More schoos have been buil, insuring the increase the number of students enrolling each year. However, if we ask about the quality of education these childrens get, we reach to a conclusion that we a tossing our childrens on a spaceship that goes to the 12th planet.
It is high ime to seat and think whe you are celebrating the independence of your country, ask yourself, AM I CELEBRATING THE AGE OF THE NATION, OR THE DEVELOPMENT SO FAR YOUR COUNTRY HAS MADE?

When Everyone Around us Matters More Than Us
Related to country: Tanzania
|
The whole idea started over dinner with not more than 4 people, very courageous to share the little blessing (blesssing of having parents, a home to go to and a good education) they have in life with those who weren't so lucky due to circumstances...... these were former UN Club members and now Peace and Love Proclaimers, students of Mzumbe University, only a month old since the enrole in the university.
Their idea was to visit an orphanage that was around the university, get to spend sometime with the kids and get to learn from them and share with them various life experiences...
With the right determination, leadership and plan they managed to materialize thier idea to reality on the afternoon of 19th Nov 2011...
Life may be unfair at times, some are blessed with too much while others dont have even the littlte they need to get by, but through sharing we can achieve that right balance, the balance that guarantees life and love for all...
Life gifts are not equal all the time but by sharing we make the World a Better and fair place for both of us...

23 August 2010 -- The night of 22 to 23 August 1791, in Santo Domingo (today Haiti and the Dominican Republic) saw the beginning of the uprising that would play a crucial role in the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.
The International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is intended to inscribe the tragedy of the transatlantic slave trade in the memory of all peoples. Bringing to light all aspects of slavery is essential to constructing an overall dispassionate vision of this tragedy.
Slavely still privale in our homes, offices and our country... you can do somethimg about it.

A strugle for Education
Related to country: Tanzania

It is declared that education is Fundamental Right to all children but i wonder how that can be possible if the school is 1000mies away, there are only buidings but no teachers, there are teachers but not compitent... I wonder if that is what you wish for your child.
Every politician takes his or her child in a good private school and dont even care of these all poor children who can not afford all those luxuries because some few people not even more than 500, steel there right.

Invest in Peace
Related to country: Tanzania
available in: (original) |

Dear all,
For the past two decades my country has hosted the largest number of refugees from all parts of Sourthen Sahara, this is because most Tanzanians decided to invest in peace.
For 50 years country had/have the challenges of its own such as corruption, mass unemployment, land conflicts and inflation just to mention few. However we the people of United Republic of Tanzania decided to hold our horses and let things fall into places after some time. We might be seen as fools sometimes with those who use force to reach the agreements, but we take it as a bedge of honor as we see the positive results of it, that we spend more time in production rather than arguments, we respect Human Rights and the Rule of law as one. We come closer to one another.
Saying that, i urge all youth to decide where they will prefer to invest their time, money and energy. If they invest in conflicts they will reap the good of it a dead zone with no tourists nor investment. But if they invest in peace they will reap a prosper economy.
Lets learn from Rwanda, they learned the meaning of the phrase the hard way. But you have the chance to prevent it to happen to your country by INVESTING IN PEACE AND NEGOTIATIONS.
